Burned/frayed shift cable 2016 Adventurer 38Q

Found my transmission shift cable severely frayed and burned today as it had been in regular contact with the exhaust- a seemingly frequent occurrence on various F53's. It has to be changed out before it creates a serious incident or fails in travel. I found a new cable and have it on the way. Installing the transmission connection end seems pretty straight forward. The steering column end-- well that's something else.

Has anyone made this change out themselves before and if so any secrets to dealing with the steering column end of the business? I'm guessing it requires a good bit of disassembly around the steering column from what I see. The job may be well outside my job description and over my pay grade. All that said I'd like try to do this job myself.

Thanks for any experience or thoughts on this. Joe
