Insect screens on roof vents?
Good day,
Do folks here have insect screens on the 2 roof grey and black plumbing vents?
Not sure if needed, I will do the 2 gas exhausts from furnace and hot water heater as a precautionary measure, but my experience shows bugs really don’t like the natural/propane exhaust vents in homes anyway…
But the sewer vents are another thing…
Thx! Bill

I have not seen any type of mfg. screen for those vent pipes. Now that does not mean there is not anything out there. People are coming up with useless money wasting things all the time. I would not use a screen there as wanting a good clean upward air flow is important.
The screens for the water heater and furnace are mainly for the "mud daubers" wasps. I guess call me lucky but have never used those screens and have not had a problem.

Thanks for the input BeHappy!

May be useless, but would not seem very restrictive. Camco seems reputable name.
Don’t know how to get dead animal out of tank so more preventative for $6.
Had a squirrel fall down my home chimney and to let him out from the damper was a real mess!!!
Any other opinions?
Thx! Bill

I always screen the air vents on frig and furnace but I have never had anything on the holding tanks as it has never been an issue.
I would not bet on what drives them to build one place or another but I might guess there is more chance of them liking the furnace and water heater vents better when we store because they have a horizontal surface.
Not saying they don't build on a vertical because we fight that at our front door, but the primary spot is on the eaves where the nest can hang down and away from the mount!

Brilliant that Camco makes this part ... "imagine it, sell it, and they will buy it". But actually, seems like a good idea?
I once maintained a large commercial property which switched all urinals from water-flush to waterless (seemed like a good idea at the time?). Due to the intense urine smell (attractive?), teeny insects invaded down through the roof plumbing vents, eventually clogging the vents and portions of the waste piping system! Weeks of head-scratching, then quite a roto-rootering project to get everything flowing again. Finally fashioning fine mesh stainless steel fabric to cover roof plumbing vents!

Well if I can pull the cover I guess I’ll add the top vent screens. My thoughts were along the lines of Jay Tea’s and it seems plausible that it could happen, and better to fix it on the new trailer before the stack gets too ripe
Beides when I went to install the hot water heater and furnace screens today I opened the passthru and 2nd door let loose 2 wasps from inside!
BTW the screen for the dometic furnace was a piece of junk. Springs way too long to hold it on, so will need to devise an attachment method…

Over the years, I have tried buying several parts for screening and found they either didn't quite cover what I wanted or were just total failures so now I just start with DIY rather than buying and THEN trying to rework what doesn't work!
I had to hunt for a bit to find the smaller openings in the screen, so now the left over is just part of the junk I've moved about 5-6 times!
It'll come in handy some day describes about half my possessions!

Interesting tidbit... I had a 1975 Airstream and it had screens for the plumbing vents. I don't have them on my Itasca, in fact, one of my vent covers is missing the top. I have the replacement but haven't had time to get it on.

Agree with “some are total failures…”
Sadly the screen for my hot water heater opening is too small and keeps falling out.
At least I didn’t pay someone to put in a crappy part.
Hate it when I pay someone to damage my stuff… parts and labor…
