A lifetime of camping

My oldest brother brought his young family to Colorado after being released from his service in the Navy at the end of the Cuban Missile Crises. A year earlier, my mom and dad along with my other two brothers and one sister left the bitter winters of Minnesota to start a new life there at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. As a nine-year-old I had envisioned life in the west as an old western movie complete with cowboy hats and six-guns. By the end of the first summer I realized that mountain tops,...

Tote Hoist

My wife and I have been on the road full time for four and a half years and have seen a growing trend in the volume of campers especially at the end of each week. I attribute this dramatic increase in weekenders to the lingering manic like urge to escape from covid prison. You can’t fault them for craving the outdoors after two years of house arrest but all these new fugitives have made it difficult to find a spot to park. We are especially fond of Army Corps campgrounds and they seem to be a favorite...

Main door Window Screen

Posted 04-07-2023 at 02:10 PM by HiBanky

My 2005 Journey, like many other diesel pushers has a window screen on the main door. This screen, under certain sunlight conditions, can obscure the view of oncoming traffic. My solution to this was to remove the original material and build a removable screen using a frame kit from Amazon. I made it a 1/4 inch smaller than the opening and added 1/8 inch of weather stripping on all 4 sides to seal out bugs and give it snug fit. The weather striping keeps it in place and makes it easy to remove and...

TST tire pressure sensor failure.

Posted 04-06-2023 at 12:21 PM by HiBanky

I have a TST 507 SE tire pressure sensor system that became very erratic and eventually stop displaying temperature and pressure all together. I would be embarrassed to admit just how much time I spent programming and reprogramming trying to solve this problem. It's uncharacteristic of me to depend on tech support but out of desperation I gave them a call. The rep, Jim, was a very knowledgeable and helped me troubleshoot the problem. One thing he mentioned was a possible loose antenna. Although...

Dash Radio out with old in with the new

The 2005 Winnebago Journey was fitted with a state of the art entertainment system but in 2022 this technology is well out dated. For me, the behemoth of a TV had to be the first thing to go and I have covered that in an earlier blog. Now I have taken on the sound system which is also very much out of date. Not being that much of a music connoisseur, I would have left well enough alone but the multi-function radio in the dash died leaving me little choice but to replace it.

Remove...
