Gas Furnace gone wild

Posted 11-30-2023 at 10:05 AM by HiBanky

It's 1:00 AM in Central Florida and the temperature is 34 degrees. I'm in a deep sleep and suddenly a horrendous noise wakes me. The coach is shaking like a washing machine out of balance and a noise is coming from the foot of the bed that sounds like a drum solo. In a trance like state, I jump from my bed and search for the source. The noise is loudest at the gas furnace return vent. So, I go to the control panel and shut off the heat. Now the furnace has about a two-minute delay after shutting...

Creature Invasion

Posted 10-01-2023 at 01:55 PM by HiBanky

If you spend enough time traveling and go to enough places you will eventually be invaded by unwanted guest. Not all places have these undesirables but when it happens it becomes a war of determinations. The first encounter with an invading species happened even before we bought our per-owned coach from a very nice couple living on a ranch in Colorado. Ranches have mice and so did the RV we were considering. Not only was there evidence of their presents scattered about, but one little rascal darted...

How not to repair a 50 amp shore line

Posted 09-07-2023 at 02:18 PM by HiBanky

I bought this 2005 journey five years ago. I noticed at that time that the 50 amp extension cord had what look to be a kitchen range plug on the end. It seemed to be working fine so I paid it little mind until today when it just burnout. Thankfully it didn’t cause a fire. Clearly somebody really didn’t know what they were doing when they added this inadequate receptacle. I replaced it with one for an RV.

Upgrade Weather Pro drive motor

Posted 08-12-2023 at 02:19 PM by HiBanky
Updated 08-12-2023 at 02:22 PM by HiBanky

The drive motors for the older Weather Pro electric awnings are getting hard to find and once more they have a design flaw that has been eliminated in the newer model. The old motor can be replaced with the new but not without swapping out the arm attachment parts. Not a difficult task but there are some pitfalls to avoid. Check out my blog (Weather Pro Awning not moving) for details on removing the motor with the awning fully extended. Be careful !!

With both the old and new motors...

Day-Night window shade restoration

Posted 07-28-2023 at 01:40 PM by HiBanky
Updated 07-30-2023 at 01:44 PM by HiBanky (Caution)

If your RV has a few years on it and it’s equipped with day-night window shades you probably have notice by now that they’re getting a bit dingy. Because of the material they’re made from they can’t really be cleaned and replacing them would take quite a lot of money. Believe it or not a very inexpensive and elegant way to bring new life to these shades is simply spray painting them. There are however some tricks to this in order to give them a factory finish. Be sure to...
