Door Awning launch

If it's not one awning it's the other! Now the awning over the door has given it up in a rather unsettling way. It was getting sticky in that it would not come out without a nudge, so I tried to free it up by running it in and out when it launched itself out suddenly. How it will not retract. The motor turns but no motion in or out. Something awfully familiar about this.
I pulled it down from the coach which was simple enough. Drill out two pop rivets, cut the wires and slide it out of the track. Then I remove the left end covers, a few screws and one more pop rivet, to expose the drive motor. Three Philips head screws hold the motor on to the plastic housing. The motor shaft has a flat that is supposed to mate with a flat inside the roller shaft, but it is completely worn away.
Because my passion is to fix whatever I can with what I have on hand, I scratched my head and came up with a plan to pin the roller shaft and cut a slot in the motor shaft. It takes a bit of skill with a drill and an angle grinder so maybe it's not for the faint hearted . Peening the end of the pin will keep it from coming out. In the end, I believe the repair is more robust than the original design. Time will tell.
