Dish vs Hot Spot vs STARLINK

You can only watch so much caveman TV. That is, if you are a full-timer, sitting in front of a campfire and poking at the half-burned logs eventually becomes unsatisfying. This is when video entertainment becomes kind of important. If you move around a lot, you will find yourself in places that have no over-the-air broadcasting, bad cell service, and too many obstacles to receive Dish satellite signals. There are several ways to improve signal strength with boosters, but if the signal is really weak you are stuck without entertainment. In an attempt to rectify this , I have purchased a STARLINK system diching my cell booster, expensive unlimited mobile data cell plan and my Dish receiver. Time will tell but so far, I have excellent signal strength and nearly endless streaming options. To ensure that a good signal is always available, I have purchased an antenna poll mount from SRALINK and a 25-foot telescoping poll that attaches to my coach. Side note; I made a modification to the top end of the poll to prevent it from collapsing while fastening the antenna mount. The initial cost of all the hardware is a bit high, but I was able to offset that by selling my Dish system to a fellow camper. The monthly cost is also higher but, by using my Amazon Prime account for streaming, ending my Dish service, and reducing the amount of mobile hot spot data in my cell plan, it's not that much more. The big advantage is the speed. There is very little buffering and lightning-fast internet searches. I think it was a good move. We will see how well it works when we get back into the thick pines this summer.
