Water Filter Housing Removal

I had noticed that last few times I removed the whole house water filter housing to replace the filter it was difficult to remove. So I started using a lubricant on the O-ring. It didn't seem to make a big difference, but I was always able to remove the housing. I tried today to remove and replace the filter, but can not get the housing to budge at all. I put so much pressure on it that I was afraid I'd break the weld on the mounting plate or something else. I'd feel better if it was mounted solidly, but it's basically on a sheet metal panel that is not very sturdy.

Looking for any suggestions or advice.

By chance did you forget to relieve pressure in the housing? Don't ask how I know about that.
Once I got the bowl off, the guy nest too me told be to only hand tighten the bowl. I didn't tell on myself, just thanked him.

LOL, I learned that mistake a long time ago as well from a similar incident!

I have been using a lube and only tightening enough to get the O-ring to seal because of this continual problem. I did a google search and saw a suggestion to heat the housing with a blow dryer so I guess I'll try that. Also a suggestion to use a Lisle tool that uses a ratchet to turn the housing.

Thanks for the reply!

Heat and wrenching seemed to do the trick.
