Winnebago Journey fog lamp housing

Howdy all,

My 2004 journey's fog lamp assembly popped off the inside of fiberglass bumper and the driver side is about to do the same. Apparently the metal housing is just held on by some sort of adhesive. Can anyone help me out as to what exactly do i use to reattach and where this product might be found.
I'm in California

thanks a bunch
Ron

Ron,

There is a thread in the Winnie section discussing hood hinge issues having the same problems for the same year. There are several suggestions on materials to use.

I have the hinge problem, but have had the fog light repaired before. The body shop used an epoxy mix that was dark black and used lots of it. More than I could have bought at a auto parts place. I'm thinking of going to a boat supply and checking with them.

Good luck

You could try JB Weld - a two part epoxy. Several members have used this to reattach the "grill" and other parts.

3M 5200 will hold it forever.

We used to use 3M 5200 in a boat and learned to only use it on something you never ever want to take apart again. Tough stuff.

I went to the boat place here in town and bought the 3M 5200. It is in a squeeze tube with a applicator tip you can cut to control the amount that comes out.

For my application I took the generator access door off of the frame so I would have more room to work and be able glue the brackets with the frame in the closed position without the door in the way.

Took about 3 minutes to inject the adhesive behind the driver's side bracket. This one was holding on by a thread. I took pieces of wood and used one behind the bracket and one in front to protect the paint. I used a hand clamp to hold the bracket.

The instructions say it takes seven (7) days for the adhesive to cure.

I had the same issues on my Generator hatch and along the drivers rear wheel well. Instead of adhesive I resorted to a rivet gun.

phinneyj,

That is my next step. I have every color of touchup paint to cover the rivets.
Three days and the 3M 5200 is still pliable. Four to go!

Ron,

I was lucky in that their prior owners left the bottles of touchup paint in the owners satchel. I believe our years were Sherwin Williams supplied. A call to Winniebago should get your numbers. Finding a Sherwin Williams auto paint store shouldn't be too difficult.

I used one color once when the windshield guy put a small pea sized dink in the gray paint color when replacing a crack windshield. Haven't had any need since then.

I used stainless steel button head bolts to secure my loose panels. I just looked up my paint code in the brochures and ordered a small touch up kit from these folks.

I used a double order of Mighty Putty on all Winnebago adhesive points I could reach. Easy to work with, just wear good gloves. I have recently read that Winnebago is still using the same quality adhesive and joints are failing on newer RVs. At least the 04's era has good HWH slide mechanisms and we are not dealing with slide failures.
