King Jack antenna dead?

I have 37' Adventure. It has the King Jack antenna on the roof. I have the Antenna amp light on and the light on the dial that turns the antenna. But I never get any signal lights and no channels are discovered. Not sure if the head unit is dead or not. Think about replacing it but I do see a lot of omni directions antennas on the new rigs. Anyone replace their antenna?

I had a King Jack go bad also. Here is what I found upon taking it apart (which is not hard) there is a small diameter wire. That wire is connected to the main house coax to the head of the king jack. On mine due to turning the head ect. that wire had broken. I replaced with a short regular type coax and no problem.

After all of that ant. worked great! I did however add an omni direction ant. as the king placment on the roof was right next to the AC cover and that blocked alot of signal. I attached the omni to the roof ladder ran coax along the roof and attaching it to the coax coming out of the roof for the king. Worked great.

Good Luck

Have a king antenna and the lights would not show on the inside base. replaced the small wire from inside base to antenna on roof. That got the lights to work. Still got TV before and after repair.

When you took it apart was it on the roof or the inside when you found the wire?

Remove the inside rotating housing and you will see the coax cable. This goes up to the antenna on the roof . That antenna will also have to be removed , three/four screws , to get to that end of the coax. Replace cable then reseal roof with self leveling chaulking.

All of my work on the king was on the roof. I first started with removing the base screw but found that not to be much help. I then unscrewed the two ant. pieces thats when I found the thin coax cable. The whole operation is pretty easy to do and really can not screw things up. As said make sure you re caulk the base.

I didn't try to fix mine (I really wasn't that impressed with its performance). I replaced it with the Winegard RVW-395 Sensar IV White DTV/HD TV Antenna. It's an old-style crank-up type, but I really appreciate the extra 18" of reach for better reception. I installed it using the amplifier from the King Jack. FWIW, it gets twice the channels that the Jack did. \ken
