2022 1708FB - No exhaust fan above stove?

Hi all,

We are expecting delivery of our new 1708FB next week. One thing I noticed that looks different from previous models is no exhaust fan above the stovetop.

We are new to TTs. Is this something we would want to add?

Thanks.

Are you sure? I just watched a video and looked at static Ad pictures and both appeared to show an exhaust hood above the stove top, underneath the convection microwave.

Hmm. I can't get a direct link on this image. This isn't our unit but the picture angle is better for seeing the regular light under the convection/microwave.

We were just at a show and I noticed this on more than one unit.

I have seen some TTs that have a ceiling fan, such as a Fantastic Vent adjacent to the galley to serve as a range top vent.

Here's the sales ad I looked at which showed an exhaust fan hood and flapper vent on the outside.

The TT in the linked ad above definitely has a range hood. The TT in the earlier posted definitely did not have one:

Yea, I noticed that. I wonder if it has to do with part shortages that we've heard about? I did notice in the video, that the TT ceiling vent did appear to have a fantastic fan or similar and was located above the sink/stove area, as you had noted seeing in other TTs. Though that TT also had a range hood.

I think, I would prefer a range hood and would probably take it upon myself to install one, if we were to buy a TT without one. I keep thinking about amount of steam and heat generated when cooking on the stove top. Though, I wouldn't install one until I had a chance to use the stove top without one and see how it goes.

From the photo it appears yours just has a countertop microwave on a shelf insert and was not ordered with the optional range hood. In those you just use the ceiling vent overhead. You may want to consider installing a ventless range hood with the carbon filter pack along with using the ceiling vent to keep oily fumes from cooking from accumulating on the walls, ceiling, etc and the overhead vent fan.

Is it possible that the microwave has a fan that can be turned on? It may not be vented to the outside however.

Smile Range hood

Our 2021 Spirit 26T had no range hood or ceiling fan above the stove. It did have a sticker telling us to open the ceiling vent when the stove was on. I'm guessing that the sticker was cheaper than a fan would be. That was one of several ways Winnebago has cheapened the Class Cs. No toilet cleaner hose, no outside shower, no Fantastic Fan--just a small bath fan, no compartment lights, no outside lights on driver side, no transfer switch. The Winnebago Class C we had in the 90s had all of these things. I'm pretty sure we paid twice as much for the 2021. We just traded for a 2021 Adventurer. Even more money, but way less frustration.

Hi all,

I did contact Winnebago and here is there response.

In the Micro Minnie 1708FB, the vent above the stove is no longer an included feature. There is a vent in the ceiling of the unit for exhaust purposes to allow for proper ventilation.

We will try the vent and see how it goes. We take delivery this afternoon. Is it just a vent and not a fan?

I'm almost certain they are referring to a vent and not a fan.

IMO, some type of exhaust fan should be present, either above the stove or otherwise. I'm shocked this is not standard equipment.

Personally, I would not take delivery unless they retrofit. No matter what, you're going to want to replace the vent with a maxx-air fan.

I am certain it is just a vent! You need a positive vent fan. Winnebago is concerned enough to warn users to open the vent when cooking with propane. Just not concerned enough to include a vent fan. I suppose they think the sticker will eliminate legal liability. I'd make them install a fan--even if I had to pay for it.

Definitely no above stove hood on our 2022 unit. Didn't really notice until PDI and I'm not sure I care that much. In general if we're cooking inside its warming up water or doing something simple. I leave the heavy cooking for outside.

But! The vent above the area is indeed a powered vent fan. So that will do all the job of powered venting I'll need. We always had to turn on the roof vent in our previous camper when cooking regardless of the stove hood anyway. YMMV

Our stove top did not have a vent/fan hood. We’d find that even with the ceiling fan in over/near the stove the smoke alarm would come on all of the time when cooking almost anything.

Etrailer has a lot of them

https://www.etrailer.com/s.aspx?qry=Stove+hood+vents

We swapped out the ceiling fan for a MaxxAir Deluxe, added a hood, (ductless). It helped to almost eliminate the smoke alarm issue. One of course must have the kitchen window open to draw some air in.

Then I added a Nest carbon/smoke detector to replace the stock one.

Now, if it senses smoke, it speaks in English and warns that the alarm might go off, and it will be loud. So you have time to push a button on it to temporarily disable it.

I like the Nest alarm addition. Would be nice to get a little warning before you get assaulted with the loud alarm in such a small space.

I looked at the vedio too. Definately an exhaust fan. Seems like covid is an excuse for lots of things. Winnebago used to top of top of the line everything. I owned two the first was a 2015 31C. Everything was top of line.cabinets were actually wood nice quality sturdy. The second was a 2008 16 foot tt cabinets were same wood great quality. Now this 2022 1800bh. No exhaust fan lots of other nice other electric amenities. Cabinetry is only two years old a poor quality. Print paper covering on doors that are already warping, hinges are loose. The basic unit is very nice but over time I’ll have lots of cabinets doors to remake. First though is to install the stove fan. E-trailer has several to choose from. The sales and service is great. Vedio on line shows explicit instructions on how to instal. Thanks for all the threads about exhaust fans! Glad to know I’m not alone on this one!

No exhaust on my 2022 2108FBS. I've seen some trailers with the exhaust, some without. Likely a parts shortage issue during the covid times, but who knows. I've even removed the microwave to confirm there's no ducting going anywhere behind it.

The 1800 bh mini we just purchased does not hav a stove vent. I ordered a ventline hood (vented)from e-trailer. The stove and adjacent cabinet have one piece covering from the fridge wall to the other end of the cabinet by the entry door. Wondering how I’m going to attach the hood. There is only about 1/2 inch between the covering and the bottom of the microwave and I concerned that screws might not have anything to hold too as I can’t really see what’s between the bottom covering and the microwave. Has anyone had experience installing the hood in this model. Thanks banjo

2024 2108FBS has no exhaust hood above the stove, wimpy (ventline?) fan nearby.
I noticed the pics on the 1708 shown above there is only a window behind the sink. Ours has a window behind the stove with metal Venetian (slat) blinds where every other window has rollup shades.
Was told they did that for fire reasons.
I’ll take the extra window view on the camp side!
Does anyone know the wattage of the ductless vent fan?
I would like to replace the existing led light with the ductless fan, but don’t want to melt wiring and pop breakers…
Thx! Bill
