Battery Disconnect Tip 2011 Via 25Q

Hi-

Not sure if others have run into this or if everyone else just does it correctly, but I recently started up my 2011 Via 25Q after sitting for a week or two with the engine battery disconnected. When I started it, it showed a solid engine warning light. Driving/restarting didn't get to go away. Using a scanner I found codes P2610 & P155C(00). After scanning the Sprinter-source site I found that if you DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY WITHOUT WAITING 10 MINUTES, this can happen. So in the future, I will wait. Someone also indicated that the manual says the key should be in the ignition before reconnecting the battery.

Hi Marty,
That is a really weird requirement. On the old 80s EEC IV Ford computers, a power-down reset required that the battery be disconnected for 10 minutes, but then you could start it up right away. But now to have to wait 10 minutes upon power restoration, and for some even stranger reason the key needs to be in the ignition? Are we sure computers are making our lives easier?
Thanks, Eagle5

On the Sprinter Bluetec diesel engine the ECM runs a program upon shutdown which includes activation of the EGR valve in an effort to keep it from becoming clogged and frozen with soot deposits, you can hear it activate the EGR about six times upon shutdown, it sounds kind of like a small dog yipping.
