Three times now I have managed to brush-up against the controllers of my Suburban gas range, and inadvertently turn the gas on. The first time, I noticed that I did it right away, the second time I smelled the gas in the first two minutes, and the third time I did it just as I left the motorhome, locked it up, and went inside. Fortunately, I heard my propane detector screaming, or else who knows what could have happened?
I purchased this from Amazon:
Vadiff Silicone Gas Stove Child Safety Knob Locks
As four quarters fit under my knobs, I ordered the regular Vadiff Locks:
Because the three range control knobs pull-off with just an ounce or two of pressure, I needed to increase that pull-off resistance so the Vadiff Locks won't force the control knobs off of their control shafts. Using a tape measure, scissors, and a dental scaler, I cut three 1"x1" squares of aluminum foil:
I wrapped the aluminum foil up from the bottom, leaving a little extra jetting past the end of the control shaft, thereby keeping the aluminum foil from sliding inward on the control shaft:
Using the back of the scaler, I formed the aluminum foil into the center of the control shaft. If you ever remove the knobs, you will need to replace this 1"x1" square piece of aluminum, and hence the dental scaler is an excellent tool to remove the torn aluminum scraps from the inside of the control knob.
The Vadiff Locks in the unlocked position, awaiting the re-installation of the control knobs.
The Vadiff Locks need to be rotated 180º and then pressed down somewhat firmly to make sure the control knob cannot be pressed-in enough to allow accidental rotation.
For $17 bucks, this is cheap insurance!
