Storage upgrades in my Micro Mini 2106DS

After using our trailer for a couple of years we have figured out what we use all the time and what we never use. We never used our jack knife couch under the Murphy bed. So, we took it out. Made more storage under there. The base was pretty weak with no support. I added a sheet of 1/4” melamine and went underneath, in the storage compartment and added 1x2” support. Bought some bins, and now we have more storage. We also used to use hanging storage things that always dumped all our clothes and was pretty much useless. So, I bought some 12” wide mdf shelving at Home Depot and made custom shelves. I didn’t want to screw or nail into the trailer. So I used my nail gun with Brad nails and I made shelves that only tie into themselves and aren’t attached to the sides at all. They will not move, but they have given us MUCH more storage. I put pics up so you can see. Hit me up if u have any questions or tell me what you’ve done! Hope this is helpful to some of you out there! Thanks!!

Good topic! I have a 2108TB that's a permanent king. I bought (3) plastic bins from Walmart and stash them in the center compartment utilizing them as a "pantry".

Total cost - $25

Hi Josh, We have a 2108DS with the same setup, could you give a little more detail on the closet shelving. Thanks Ron

Hi Ron, (this is gonna be long!)
I’d be glad to. Not sure what details you might want. So my fear in doing anything was that I didn’t wanna fasten anything to the trailer itself. Not sure where I can or cannot. Didn’t want any damage done. We measured and decided we wanted 12” tall shelves. One of our concerns was getting lumber (plywood or whatever) and having the trailer stink like the lumber section at Home Depot. Allergies or what naught. So we bought 12” wide MDF shelving material. It didn’t smell and was smooth, primered, lightweight, and perfect width to lay sideways and give us the height we needed. I got 10’ lengths. I then took a tape measure and measured to where I wanted the first shelf to be (height=12”), and then measured how deep we would want it to go. From there I cut 3 pieces at that length. 2 for the sides (support) and a top piece. I placed those in the compartment and used my nail gun and shot Brad nails from the top piece into the support sides. That made, basically, an upside down “U”. Because the front of the trailer is tapered as it goes up, the next shelf pieces would be a shorter length. I just repeated the process. Once all the shelves were done, I put a piece of 1” x1” in front. That did 3 things:
1-I brad nailed those to the front lips of the shelves to tie each “upside down “U” together.
2-gave it a more “finished look”
3- it gave each shelf a small “lip” to catch clothes if they slid forward during travel.
This way of building it allowed me to not have to fasten any part of the shelves to the trailer itself. It’s all held in place by just being tightly fitted in there.
A small disclaimer is that we haven’t yet made a trip since I built it. We have a trip coming up first week of December and I can follow up after that. I hope this helps and if you have any other questions just hit me up either here or on the private message. I’m out of town and not near my trailer this week, but this Friday I will be. I can also take more detailed pics and even give you a parts/materials list if you would like? I can also draw out a diagram with dimensions of each shelf. We really liked how much space we gained from this and how much more useful the compartment will be.

Hope this helps

Here is a cheesy diagram. I drew an upside U so u can see how the held pieces are laid in. Then I showed u where to nail. I shot 3 nails (front, middle, back), these were 1” brad nails. Being careful to shoot straight down. As you go up in the compartment, each shelving will gradually be shorter in length due to the tapering trailer wall. Then u can cut a trim piece for the front. U can use 1”x1” like me, or get half round floor moulding or something like that.

Hope these help give you a better idea. Again, none of these are fastened to the walls of the cabinet in any way

My underbody storage solution

I was keeping my sewer connection parts in a Rubbermaid type container in the outside compartment, but it took up a lot of room. So I found a steel truck underbody tool box that bolted to the frame of my 2108DS. At 10" depth, it did not extend past the trailer body. I used steel angles to get a good attachment to the frame as the manufacturer's bracket were not a good fit.
