Small fuel tank on Mercedes

Love my Vita 24F, everything except for the size of the fuel tank. 25 gallons is small for a RV. I've driven into the fuel reserve light a number of times. To give my self a little more comfort I mounted a couple gallon fuel tank on the back for emergency use

I thought it was going to be an issue but so far it hasn't. Fuel goes quite a ways at 14.5 MPG, it's a days driving for me. There are bigger fuel tanks available for the Sprinter, up to 47 gallons, assuming your chassis is a Sprinter diesel. Do you tow the Wrangler and if so why not put the extra diesel in that?

I get 10-11 mpg with the Jeep back there, so to be safe I go just over 200 miles between fuel stops. I didn't want to put a can of diesel in my Jeep because of the smell.

I learned the hard way when I had a diesel pick up truck. I ran out of fuel, its not like a gas engine where you just pour the gas in and start. I had to get a mechanic to come and bleed the lines to the engine. Very costly learning curve.

The reason I posted was just a reminder to stop before gauge reaches 1/4. It may be a pain to stop but it the long run may be well worth it.

That's how it was in the old diesels, run out of fuel on a newer diesel and it's possible to damage/destroy high pressure pumps and injectors.

I put two side carriers on my 2004 Wrangler - they fit just in front of the doors and each can carry a 5 gallon jerry can. I carry either extra water or gasoline for the Jeep or diesel for the mh, depending - different cans for each of course. Morryde makes them. Keeps the liquids outside so no worries about spills or smells.

Red fuel containers generally mean "gasoline", while yellow containers are for "diesel". While it may not be possible to get this style of container in yellow, you should clearly mark it (maybe with felt pen across the top) as "DIESEL". You know it is diesel, but if for some reason you have it sitting around your home or in the garage, someone else might mistake it for gasoline and use it in their car, lawnmower, etc.

Our B+/C is on a Sprinter chassis so it also has that small tank. But given that we generally get about 16-17 mpg if we are not towing, and about 15 if we are, then I find that our range is more than sufficient. Even at 15 mph we get a range of about 375 miles and that is usually more than a day’s drive for us.

My general policy is to fill up when the tank drops to somewhere below 1/2, so every 200-250 miles, and I find that doing that gives me a chance to walk around and stretch my legs. I would probably do the same even if the tank were much larger.

If that is a Rotopax they do make yellow for diesel but for some reason the yellow ones cost more than the red ones. Rotopax is crazy expensive anyway.

Agree, after 3 to 4 hrs I want to get out and move around anyway, plus it’s about the size of my bladder!

My bladder is essentially a small tank, too. So it's all timed about right.
