Navion/View 24D Toilet

Does anyone have any thought on replacing the plastic toilet in the 24D with porcelain model or if this is even possible with the clearances around the toilet mount?

Thanks

The exact same model toilet in the 24D is available in porcelain too. Think Winn put in the plastic to save weight as the 24D is the heaviest floorplan. In my opinion for the little weight savings, they should have stuck with the porcelain.

I think your right. It looks like the original is a thetford aqua magic residence plastic and you can get the style 2 identical size except porcelain. Seems like a simple easy upgrade.

Thanks

Unless someone is grossly overweight there is not advantage to a porcelain toilet. The plastic toilets have been used in trailers and boats for the past 50 years with no one complaining about them breaking.

The plastic toilet would save some weight looks like 15 lbs maybe. I think the porcelain is easier to clean and will creak and flex less, Winnebago only puts plastic on the 24D floor plan, I guess to save weight.

We've had no issues with our plastic toilet in our 18ND. Don't know why one would need porcelain. Doesn't feel any different when seated, or work any different. Why not save weight and cost? If it isn't broke....

I disagree. A porcelain toilet is scratch resistent and therefor much easier to keep clean. Porcelain will not turn yellow either or like a plastic toilet.

My 2012 Navion 24M came w porcelain, after a winter valve freeze I replaced with plastic. Used plastic about a year then switched back to porcelain because it was easier to clean and quieter although much heavier, Found that the parts and mounting are interchangeable, Could just buy the porcelain bowl and mounting gaskets and switch the other parts,
The toilet in the 24M is against the rear exterior wall - beside normal freeze protection, a piece of 1 1/2" foam insulation can inserted between the toilet bowl and exterior wall to protect the spool valve and upper bowl plumbing from freeze.

The plastic toilet is common in RV use, but it does creak and flexes a bit in use. Looking at the plastic inner bowl, I can see it will easily scratch up with cleaning brushes unless you use very specific soft ones. I tried to look for just the procelain bowl, but it seems that is not a part you can order on its own. I guess it makes sense cause basically that is the only piece differentiating to 2 products.
