Corking in the shower ?

Hello,

We are owners of a used 2007 Winnebago View 23J.
At the bottom of the shower, corking was horrible.
I completly removed it.
Now I’m wondering if originally there was some, leaving the factory.
As owner of a sistership of this motorhome, somebody can give me information about this topic ?

Pierre

I drive older motorhomes but I have to be honest that 2007 is 14 years newer than my current MH. Never heard of cork used anywhere outside of a residential floor, wall or wine bottle. Are you sure you didn't mean that the caulk was poorly done or missing?

Pierre, welcome.

Pretty sure that no Winnebago RV (or any other brand) installs Cork in the bottom of the shower.

Ha!Ha!Ha! You are right !
Sorry for my spelling mistake .
I should have written caulking in place of corking .
In fact, caulking was poorly done at the joint between the floor and the wall.
I removed it and I’m thinking that maybe, no caulking is required there.
Here is a photo.

Not required there, the pan has a lip that rises behind the sides. It is required where the door meets the pan and sides.

As stated there is none needed there, nor should you put and caulk there. One of the reasons is to let moisture run down and out.

Thank you very much from all of you !
I won’t put anything, except under the door like recommended by powercat ras.

Funny - mine is brand new and my basin is caulked to the wall. I wonder if Winnie did it or the dealer ….

Our 2018 came from the factory with sealant in that seam. Ours, began to crack and was never a very good job to begin with, so before using the wrong stuff, I called Wbgo. tech support and asked what they used. Was told to use a sealant with good expansion characteristics, not bathroom calk. Bathroom caulk will not expand or contract with temperature extremes. After cleaning off all the old stuff, I used DAP Dynaflex 230 white sealant that advertised flexibility and crack resistance. Going into year two and it still looks great.

You weren't totally wrong. As a former sailboat owner and reader of numerous nautical books, I immediately knew what you meant. "Corking" is an old pronunciation of "caulking":

No, mine has rivets on the bottom. I've seen the showers like yours before, but not one like mine.
