starting problem

Just purchase 1987 Le Sharo
all systems work - except one
can't get the starter to crank -- put in new battery
If it has neutral safety switch - I can't find it
Are there any other safety switches that would keep it from starting ?

It has a Ford starter relay - don't have any power there

Does anyone have info that would help ?

Many thanks
Harry in New Mexico

Like any other vehicle if it won’t crank the most common and first thing to investigate is the vehicle’s starter battery.

Hi Harry,
Try pushing forward and to the left on the shifter, while it is in Park, and see if it cranks then. Another thing to try is to see if she will crank in Neutral. It sounds like a transmission safety switch problem to me.
Good luck; Eagle5

Also, check to see if the RV has a chasis battery switch. Some RVs have the chasis battery switch to prevent battery drain, while in storage.

That year is not as complex as the newer and it doesn't have some of the safety features we now find but which is not something I have any foggy idea. For the chassis wiring, we are not as well set on drawing as those are considered chassis by Winnebago. So when dealing with a start issue, I would have to chase it as a Ford issue and hope to find some info there.
I don't know how many of the following are involved as the list has gotten much longer over time.
Ignition switch and wiring
Power control module
Tons of various inputs from various sensors like fuel pressure, etc. so that without an actual circuit diagram, mechs have to rely on a computer to tell them where to start looking.

I traded a 2015 Ford Focus because the computer could never figure a starting problem and get a fix, even after about eight months and warranty work at three different Ford garages!
