Fuel economy of the Onan generator?

Just curious. I have a 2019 Forza and in hardly ever use the generator. I’m staying at some boondock campsites this week and wondering how much gas the generator burns per hour. Not running much load...just the residential fridge and some ac outlets for charging iPhones etc. Also maybe the tv for a couple of hours.

On page 51-52 of the Cummins-Onan-RV-Generator-Handbook, the 4,000 Watt Gasoline Generator has these consumption rates:
  • no load = 0.3 gallons per hour
  • half load = 0.5 gallons per hour
  • full load = 0.7 gallons per hour
If you ran the Generator for 8 hours at quarter load, you would use:
0.4 Gallons per hour × 8 hours = 3.2 gallons
Not too bad.

Many thanks. Wish I could find that...my manual is a dvd...old school. Any chance you have the same stats on the 6000 watt diesel?

Certainly; it is on page 53-54 of the same manual. Here are the numbers for the 6,000 watt diesel:
  • no load = 0.13 gallons per hour
  • half load = 0.49 gallons per hour
  • full load = 0.96 gallons per hour
So, running the Generator for 8 hours at quarter load, you would use:
0.31 Gallons per hour × 8 hours = 2.5 gallons of diesel
Thanks, Eagle5
