12 r refrigerator

2022 2108 DS will the 12 volt refrigerator run off the tow vehicle power automatically when the engine is running and will it charge the battery in the trailer.

On a warm day your 12v compressor fridge will consume about 2 amps per hour. If you still have your original Marine Deep cycle on the trailer, and it is fully charged when you start driving it probably has 50-60 amp hrs useable. So that is more than enough to keep the fridge running for a 10 hour drive.

If your tow vehicle has factory brake controller, it will send power through the 7-pin plug 12v circuit to the trailer. How much power is dependent on your tow vehicle. You can test this with a multimeter by measuring amperage across the 1 o’clock and 7 o’clock terminals in the 7-pin receptacle while the tow vehicle is running.

On my trailer with its battery run down to about 50% I would measure 10-12 amps from the 7 pin connector when hooked up and the TVs engine running. When the batteries were closer to full charge, like 90+% the current would drop to below 5 amps.

In any case that is plenty to run your trailer's compressor fridge while driving and recharge the battery, albeit slower since some current is being used by the fridge.

All of this assumes that you have a compressor fridge.

Travel Trailer manufacturers routinely provide for one house battery, usually installed by the dealer. These batteries are usually limited in storage capacity due to size of batteries used, usually Group-27 size or about ~70 amp hours.

Prudent buyers will recognize that this is inadequate and have a second battery installed by the dealer or install a second battery themselves.

In many cases a travel trailer’s tow vehicle does provide some charging while driving, but not all that much.

I would expect the answer to your question is, yes, but you would probably be happier with your TT overall with the greater power storage from adding a second battery.
