There's a risk of breaking the windshields in doing this and it's most likely going to be at your expense. I'd want to try Eternabond tape across the top of the rubber moulding first. If it works, great, if not, you can proceed with more drastic solutions. Some try to put sealant behind the rubber moulding but that's not going to work long term if at all. Better to keep water away from the windshield altogether.
My 2002 had the complete repair, including metalwork and re-sealing done by a PO but, by the time I got it in Nov 17 the windshield to steel seal had failed again but, luckily, hadn't rusted yet. I put Eternabond on the top last Dec and, so far, so good.
Before doing so, remove the rubber moulding (it just pulls out of a channel) and clean out all the gunk that's accumulated along with any old, failed sealant you can get to. I replaced the moulding while I was at it, it's not too expensive.
