Steps go OUT when I start Gen

When I start the 2000 Ultimate Advantage and she's running the step goes in. If I turn on the Generator while the engine is running, the outside step goes out. If I shut off the GEN...the step goes in.
I start the engine, step in and I unhook step connection.
I will replace the magnet connection on the screen inner door and Step Switch.
Any ideas?

I suspect that you could duplicate the problem plugged into shore power. Either way, there's power to the coach battery AC to DC converter / charger. I would suspect a DC grounding issue with the converter charger or the step. Or it could be electrical noise coming out of the converter charger that is messing up the step control board. One way to troubleshoot if it's a converter charger issue would be to flip off the converter charger breaker in the breaker box and see if the problem still happens.

Here's a link to wiring diagrams:

I suspect the magnetic reed switch on the stepwell wall and magnet (proximity switch) on the screen door is out of adjustment.
You can confirm this with a hand magnet and the screen door open. When holding the magnet to the reed switch the step will/should retract, remove magnet and step should extend. Key in ACC position.
If this is erratic, remove the reed switch and clean and tighten the wire connections. FWIW, my reed switch is mounted on carpet, and the screws are only holding in the carpet (stepwell is heavy metal). Evidently screws into carpet is adequate holding force because that was factory installed.
