"GPS" head unit not turning off

Its this, I believe a Rand Mcnally unit

Outdated and useless, too dim to see any camera from it, changing radio stations seems to require about 25ft-lbs of pressure, in an exact spot, from your index finger, while on the highway - but I digress, it doesnt turn off, which is even worse. The date/time/temp still illuminates after being turned off, but it seems to be under full power (hum from the dash) and runs the house batteries down when boondocking. I flip the switch to run off chassis battery and even with the key off (and removed) it makes no difference and I will not chance running that battery down.

Am I doing something wrong?? I can get it swapped out but would rather not deal with that right now, I just want it to fully power off when needed

There is a switch on the dash to choose between the radio being on when the engine is running or even when the engine is off. Select “Engine” to only have the radio on when the engine is running.

It appears to be an Xite system from Riverpark. It can be replaced but you’ll have to figure that out as there is no one unit that is known to fit and meet your needs.

It sounds like you might need to update the SD card and/or learn more about setting up and using the system.
