Different idea for carrying waste tank

I recently posted a question about carrying a waste tank on my ladder. I got lots of great suggestions, pro and con. Speaking for myself, I am not going to do it. My next idea is to get an extension similar to the one pictured and modify it to carry the tank. My toad is about 3900lbs the waste tank will add about 55/65lbs. Tow capacity is 5000lbs. What do you think of this idea?

Are you planning on putting a full "blue boy" tank that weighs about 60 pounds on the hitch?

Picking it up would be a problem. Or you could use a macerator pump to fill it.

Tying down 60 pounds of sloshing liquid is not easy to do. Especially if you are driving down a bumpy road as 20-60mph.

No, just transporting when empty. It weighs 42 lbs empty.

What do you have for a waste container that weighs 42 pounds. That is really heavy. How do you move it when it is full? Just kind of curious.

We haven’t actually used it yet. The next park we go to doesn’t have full hook ups. The info on the web site said it is 42 lbs empty. We have a golf cart to take it to the dump station.

This is the way I currently carry my bikes, as well on my DP. On my Class A gasser I had a ladder up the back where I carried but the DP has no ladder though this pic got me thinking that perhaps there's a means to set something up to carry it on the back with the help of the bike rack. I'll check this out have our tropical storm Eta moves past us in the next few days.

It "should" work, but keep in mind about draw bar hitch drop:
"When towing a vehicle behind your motor home, the tow bar
should be level or pointing slightly upward towards the tow vehicle.
When coupling the vehicle tow bar to the Factory Receiver Hitch
using a “drop receiver” or a conventional “ball mount” (commonly
referred to as a “stinger” or a “draw bar”), do not exceed a 4” drop,
nor one that the centerline of the hitch pin to the centerline of the
ball exceeds 8”."

I too am curious about your heavier portable waste tank. I have the Barker 32 gallon unit and it weighs less than 20 pounds.
By-the-way, I stow ours in the back of our toad. We have a Chevy Trax, I fold down the rear seat and can fit the Barker and other essentials that don't have a place in the motorhome.
When I do need to tow the Barker, I simply hitch it to the Trax, but most of the time I only fill it with 15 - 20 gallons of grey and heft it into the Trax. I've read too many stories of folks towing the waste tank only to lose a wheel or axle on the tank.

We carried a small 10gal. blue boy in one of the cargo bays from 2011-14 while homeless, used it maybe a handful of times but it’s nice to have along just in case. I don’t know the dimensions of your tank or your coach specs but I recently outfitted our Adventurer with an under belly rack to tote our empty tote. I think it’s a 17gal. which is plenty heavy when loaded. Using some 1/2” and 3/4” emt conduit I fabricated a rack that fits between the frame rails just behind the receiver hitch. 2 bolts at the frame allows it to pivot down and extend out from under the coach for access.. out of site and out of mind until needed. Just food for thought.

I carry a larger LP tank in that manner behind my toad. My on board LP tank would not support my LP Generator for more than 8 hours and this makes it easier to refill when needed. Don't see why it won't work for a waste tank.

Water carrier hitch extender

You might want to check with the extender manufacturer. Just recently I purchased a hitch extender to put on the back of MH so I could tow my 4K Jeep Wrangler and add a bike rack. I purchased it from etrailer dot com. While reading things on their site I found that they say it cuts down on my hitch capacity by 1/2 to use the extender. I have a 500 lb weight hitch with a 5k tow captivity. I called them to clarify and they told me with the extender I could only put 250lbs weight and not to tow over 2500lbs.

I have noticed wording similar to that. You can get a 10k lb extender. I’m sure it weighs more but “safety first”.
