Car Dolly Question 2006 Tour
Morning,
I recently bought a 06 Winni Tour. Knowing I was going to need to tow a vehicle I bought a retired UHaul dolly cause the things are rugged as heck.
I went to load our van on it and the width of the van puts the canter of the tire on the outer rib of the tire pocket. I loaded strapped down and tested it. Seemed ok, but I wanted others thoughts.

Not familiar with uhaul dollies, however I would look and see if the "tire pocket" can be moved. There may be some type of locking bolt on the under side. I would also call a uhaul place and ask them if that pocket can be moved.
As for is it ok I will not say
Good Luck

As you stated, U-haul dollies are rugged and also fairly heavy. Pulling a full sized van, I would be concerned about exceeding the 5,000 pound limit of the normal Winnebago hitch.

Not it is not safe for the tires, that "rib" can weaken or break the tire belts. Tires must have full tread-width contact with whatever surface on which they rest.
Do as be happy said.

I don't think there is any adjustment, but I will flip it over and confirm. Worst case is I will cut the outer angled part of pocket and make it flat allowing for the tire to fit flat. Will have to find a welder with a little more power than MI e has.

Looking at your pictures, I do not think there is the width adjustment.
From the U- Haul tow dolly manual
DO NOT load a vehicle-in-tow that is more than 75 inches wide at the front doors.
There must be at least three inches of clearance between the side of the towed vehicle and the tow dolly fenders. Towed vehicle tires must fit in wheels troughs without overhanging sides.
On my dolly at first I towed our Town and Country van. The platform for the tires is flat no raised side edges. Our van had to be dead center for the van to fit. I had to watch turning very carefully our the fenders would come in contact with the side panel of the van. In fact both sides of the van have battle scars to so to tight of corners.
Good Luck

Be happy,
I am positive I will have to modify the pads to get the van on this dolly after looking at it again today. In my testing yesterday Sunday I was wondering how far the dolly pivoted. I was only able to get it to touch the black trim which goes around the wheel well. Seeing my wife has hit everything but the lottery with this van I am not worried about a an extra dig or two. Our goal is to find something small, but in the mean time it is what it is.
Mt Charlie,
I am rated to tow 10K and there is minimal toung weight with this set up.

Ferris,
We moved from the van to a kia sportage. I still have to pretty much dead center it. When looking for something else also make sure it is not AWD that was another problem we had.
Good Luck and enjoy

We had a tow dolly for the first 3 years that we were towing {back in '86} and I would NEVER go back there.
We have flat tow vehicles now, it may be a trade off but we travel 7000-8000 miles every summer across country. The connect/disconnect is 2 minutes and no problem stowing the tow dolly.
