Roof Repair on 2002 Vista 21B Volkswagen Chassis

I am responding to the people who also have the VW Vista21b and who are interested in connecting with other owners.

We recently purchased a Vista. The aluminum roof needs to be replaced. Would like to hear from others who have replaced or repaired the roof. I am thinking of replacing the aluminum.

I called Winnebago and they said it would be approx $40K for them to replace the roof in Forest City, Iowa.

Q1. What have you replaced your aluminum roof with?
Q2. Any recommendations for good/reasonable places for roof repairs?

Thanks in advance!

Hi MNBoulianne,
The YouTube Channel AZ Expert has good videos for roof repair. In reviewing the brochure for your 2002 Vista, it looks like your coach was built with aluminum substructures and a Thermo-Panel® roof. Does that seem about right? I wonder if your roof has been modified?
Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the response Eagle5. Yes, I also saw the Vista21b brochure refers to the SuperStructure. When I look at my RV roof, it does not appear to have the rounded fibreglass edge I saw in the Winnebago Superstructure videos (including the one from AZExpert doing a Filon roof). This roof seems to be aluminum sheets (3 full sheets and a half sheet). The RV roof side edge has a trim piece which appears to cover the roof and sidewall at 90 degree angle. I don't have a Vista, however I have worked on similar style roofs. There are thick coatings like RV Armor. Pricey but they come with a warranty. We have used commercial PVC membrane, fully adhered then terminated at the edge, it is thermal welded at any penetrations.
