Freedom in June.

Wife managed to book a premier site in June that overlooks this gem. WOOHOO No more aluminum slums cheek to jowl with barking dogs and screaming kids. Pacific Rim National is the best we have here on the wet coast of Canada.

The sites are length restricted to 21 feet so they are private and though small prone to having little creatures sneak up and steel crumbs off the single picnic table. So leaving food out is a total no no. Most people have bear spray because it is common to have them move around at night. You can get kicked out for leaving anything out including BBQs regardless of them being wiped they have a tendency to wind up smashed or bush dragged.

You are only permitted to use firewood that is sold in the park and all the firewood is obtained from maintaining the park. The reason for this restriction is obvious, bringing in insects and tree diseases from all over the country in plastic wrapped firewood from heaven knows where is not permitted.

The park policies are very strict and justly so, thus a very small portion of what little is left of the glorious original environment on Vancouver Island is somewhat protected from abuse.

The east coast of the island is now almost completely lined with over priced private run cheek by jowl aluminum slums with a few decent provincial parks thrown in to the mix. Somewhat like the red neck riviera of Florida was back in the 70's. Luckily we don't have alligators here on our red neck riviera but who knows maybe in a few decades more of global warming we might some day.
Just hope we don't experience a 5th wave of covid and miss out again like we have for the past two years running by abiding with the travel advisory warnings.
But you never know the 5th wave might be even more interesting than omicron it might look like this!!!

The Scottish variant looks like a lot more fun!

I grew up camping in bear country (Yellowstone area) and it was very different than camping in TX. I hope you get to go and that you have an amazing experience.

Envious. Recall camping on the west coast of Vancouver Island back in the late 80s in my little truck camper. .Absolutely spectacular despite my somewhat humble abode.
