Basement Air - Replacing With a Mini-Split System

I ran across an interesting thread today on IRV2.com by a 2002 Itasca Horizon 3126E owner who's replacing his basement air with a Mini-Split system (two completely separate single zone systems). This is the first I've seen on a project like this and I've read a ton of basement air threads.

I would not want a mini split, but that is just me. After many years in HVAC Construction I learned to hate the darn things, most companies do not have a good way of running the controls/power cable, the refrigeration lines or the condensation line. About the only place we used them was in IT Server rooms where aesthetics did not really matter.

I had a repair facility in Cleveland TN pull mine out and go through it, it now runs great.

A full-timer guy on escapees.com has 2 different mini-split units in his 40' 5er, and says they work great. He installed them himself.

They do work great, I just know the #1 complaint from our customers was that the stuff that runs between the two units is kind of ugly, and hard to hide.

That is the only complaint from the guy on irv2.com.

you would need several because the 120 volt ones only come in small sizes not larger than 12,000 BTUH. I agree that there is no way to make them look decent.

Hi, I am in Cleveland and have a 2003 Journey with basement air. It's still doing fine but I sure would like to know who did the work on yours and how much it cost.

Thanks, David

Shelburne RV, Cleveland TN, I had my unit pulled, new condenser fan motor, new bearings on the condensing fan, new caps all the way around and a good cleaning. It was around $1800
