City water filling Fresh tank 2018 Minnie Winnie 31G

I have a perplexing situation I am confused about. I am on a trip and have filled my Fresh Water tank 2/3 full. At the first campground on my trip I connected to the water connection at the park to my labeled City Connection to supply water. The next morning when I was disconnecting to leave I noticed that my RV spot had gotten wet. When I looked under my RV water was coming out of my Fresh Tank Overflow. I went inside and looked at my water tank and it was full. We used the fresh water tank to bring the level down. It happened again at the next site and at the one I am staying at.

I have a 2018 Winnebago Minnie Winnie 31G. I have looked at the 3D drawings for plumbing at the city water connection and it doesn’t show a direct connection to the fresh tank. The only thing I can figure is that the water is back flowing through the pump into the water tank.

Has anyone else experienced this issue or something similar? If so how did you correct it.

Thanks,

There is a check valve in the water pump that is supposed to prevent backflow thru the water pump into the fresh water tank. It can fail due to some contamination in the check valve or just due to deterioration of the parts over time.

I've never tried to work on a Surflo Water Pump, so don't know if you can get repair parts to rebuild one and what skill level would be required.

Shurflo

That is what I was told by someone else. I did some research and found that there is an inline check valve that can be installed, I may look into that. Until then I will use the fresh water tank until low then switch to city until the fresh tank is full again. Small price to pay to enjoy the RV.

Will look into the check valve when I get home.

Thanks for the response.

Happy Camping,

This is a super common issue. The Shurflo check valve is super simple and very easy to rebuild. Here's a link to the rebuild kit.

https://www.amazon.com/SHURFLO-94800.../dp/B01MG476D5

Plus, you can buy a $15 plastic inline check valve to put on the water inlet or outlet for the pump. I say "inlet or outlet" because I've seen others say to put it on the inlet side and others to put it on the outlet.

There is also a chance that the City / Fill diverter valve in your wet bay has failed. That's a bit harder to get to, but it can be problematic on older RVs.

Our ‘17 Winnie had the same issue. I have a new check valve that I can send you if you want. It’s been sitting in my RV box for a few years. Send me a PM if you want it.

I’ve had this happen on two coaches. The culprit was a bad check valve on the water pump.,i I changed out the pump both times, no more issues.

But- my 2022 Vista has a fresh water fill valve that ALSO went bad and did the same thing.

I hope this helps.

As other mentioned above, I had this happen to me once and it was city/fresh water fill valve that went bad. I replaced the city water connection and everything was fine..
