We bought a 2015 Minnie Winnie 22r and it didn't come with a jack. We want to get a bottle jack for changing the tire in an emergency but want to make sure we're getting the right size. I can't find the clearance spec anywhere, would we just measure from the ground to the bottom of the frame? If can someone with a similar size tell us what they have? TIA!
Hi Chomski,
You want a bottle jack that will fit under the axle; not the frame. So do measure from the ground to the plate where the leaf springs are attached. I believe the front clearance is similar. As I recall, I purchased a 12 ton bottle jack. You will want a small curved pry-bar to pry-off the hubcaps. A socket, an extension, a torque wrench and a T-handle speed-wrench will be needed too.
Thanks, Eagle5

You want a jack that will fit under the axel when the tire is flat, or carry a couple of short 2x6s that you can drive up on to get the jack under. Be sure you can get the jack out after lowering the RV.

When choosing there may be some other points to consider?
I don't favor bottle jacks for roadside as the surface is often not smooth, level, and hard.
That leaves a small footprint of a bottle jack with several points that make me nervous. One is that they can easily sink into soft ground or if the surface is not level, they tend to tilt and that can be really hard to manage.
I do agree that hydraulic is much better than screw jacks when dealing with larger rV but I favor going for safer and go with a hydraulic with four wheels for a more stable setup that is less prone to sinking or tilting.
Somewhat larger to store but then I like it as a tradeoff to get much safer if/when I might have to use it.
As the RV has grown and I've become older, I now do not worry about having a jack as I am unlikely to try to get the lugnuts loose or get the spare out from under the RV.
I admit that I have not changed a tire in 10-15 years and most likely never will again!
