2014 Winnebago View 24G

Have had this back to Mercedes dealer for engine lite maybe three times. Twice problem was low Def fluid (?) and DEF heater. Third time not sure if they found anything so just cleared it .

So now I just received an OBDII gadget which I will plug in this afternoon to see what issue might be. I can then clear it myself if it is something minor.

It is getting expensive at Mercedes each time to have them diagnose, like nearly $200.00 a pop.

Is the OBD II gadget a Mercedes-Benz compatible code reader?

Not all of them are created equal.

Good luck with it.

Good question. I assumed they are universal thru-out. Will follow up later if it worked

It may be able to clear stored codes, but may not read them correctly, so you might not know what you're clearing.

If it's a Scangauge II, it will read some of the MB ECU stored codes, and there are some extra X-Gauges listed on their website that might give you some extra info, if needed. You have to program the extra X-Gauges manually, and the SGII has to be at software/firmware level 4.2.2 or higher for them to work. IIRC. The unit comes with some basic gauges for real time engine and transmission performance stats.

There's also something called an Autel MaxiDiag MD808 Max that says it reads MB Sprinter OBD II codes. I have read good things about it, and there are some youtube vids out there, but I have no personal experience with them.

iCarSoft

We have a 2017 24G. Having the issues with Wheel Sensors and recently purchased a iCarSoft 900MB model of Scanner.
It has read the correct codes on the Sensors.
Showed me the correct Sensor and also can look at actual values.
For $150 on Amazon well worth it.
Going on Month trip to the Badlands area and also purchased replacement sensors.
While the dealership has replaced under warranty A bad sensor through me into Limp Mode which required being towed. Had to wait 1 week for new sensors that time.
With my scanner I can see what is wrong, maybe fix it, and reset codes which will be worth it.

We have the same model. At 47,000 we had all those DEF warnings. Ended up costing us over $6,000 because the DEF heater burned up, destroyed the sensors and something else. Only dealers can handle this. And while diesels are warranted for 10 years or 100,000 the Mercedes Sprinter is warranted for only 3 years or 36,000 miles.

We've also had 4 or 5 senors go out. A couple were covered on an extended warranty (we had to fight a dealer for our refund). Three Mercedes dealers told us "Mercedes has a serious problems with sensors." And the can cost $200 for the testing and another $200 to $400+ to replace. Never again will we get a Mercedes diesel.

We own a 2015 Mercedes Sprinter Diesel Reyo and yes three wheel sensors went and were replaced under warranty. More importantly, under the 36,000 warranty period, I took it in cos the tranny was acting strange. The technicians found the tranny in parts and pieces when they dropped the pan. New tranny installed on the spot and has worked flawlessly ever since. (38,000 miles and counting)
Finally, the DEF system has a design flaw according to the technicians who fixed it under warranty. So we have a workaround that design flaw.
I love getting 15 mpg and in general terms, I love a diesel. Yes Mercedes has its problems but we have an extended warranty now on all parts Mercedes so we are covered for a good long while and it is transferable.

We had this issue on our 2013 MB Sprinter chassis class “C”. Ended up costing $3000 for DEF heater and two sensors. Traded it in on a new class “A” gasser. No more DEF issues! It is sad that MB knows they have a problem and refuse to recall them and fix it. Ours was out of warranty.

Extended Warranty on MB Sprinter

Where can one get an extended warranty on the Sprinter? All this about the sensors and DEF issues makes me a little worried about mine, a 2016 chassis on a 2017 View Z24G! I have about 14,000 miles on and so far, no problems.
