I tend to come down on the side of just repairing what you have. I had mine repaired once, board went bad. It was a fast and easy fix, and the price of a board was better than a new fridge. The only frustrating part was the tech would not pull the fridge from the slot to install the board at the rear. I had to take off the molding, remove the doors and strapping to the wall, then take out the toe restraints. Sounds hard but actually only took a few minutes to pull out and put back in and secure it. Its worked for 4 years now without a hiccup.
Now think about ,moving a new fridge in and the old one all the way out? That's a whole nother story!
If I was going to be off grid a lot with no 110 v power source, then I might consider then a 12v compressor fridge.
But absent a compelling reason I'd use the extended warranty and repair it.
