A local Winnebago dealer, with whom I have been discussing a new 39' Destination DP, sent me an e-mail, stating that Winnebago is now offering an $11,000 rebate on the Destination. Has anyone else heard of this rebate?

Check out the Winnebago website. Looks to be true -- $11K off on Gas Destinations, $10K off on Diesel Destinations, and $3K off on Journeys -- Specifies that they must be 'qualifying models'.

The reason for the rebate offering is to help move dealer inventory because they have made a number of changes and updates to the model. The changes include a new vinyl ceiling (replacing the fabric), new recessed lighting (replacing the cheap surface mount style), larger rearview mirrors, the option of a RestEasy sofa. They also did away with the style "divets" next to the headlights, and added the option of a second awning which will cover the door. There were a few more, but I do not recall what else there was.

It seems as though the newer Destinations now have the Cummins 340hp engine as opposed to the 300 that was originally installed. Both of the engines are the ISB models. The 340 has 660# ftlb of torque while the 300 has 620#. If Winnebago felt the necessity to increase the power of the diesel I wonder how they feel about the performance of the 8.1 GMC.

Many of the movers and shakers on iRV2 have seen it necessary to have their 8.1 ECM reprogrammed at the cost of ~$700. Is this an indication that these owners deem the 8.1 underpowered???

A minor correction to Fcycle's statement. My 2006 Meridian is an ISB, and the rating is 300 HP and 660 Ft# of torque. Maybe the older 300HP motors were lower rated in the torque spec.

I believe SargeW is correct -- all ISB engines (back to 2000) are 660 lb-ft of torque. I had one @ 275hp but 660 lb-ft torque.
So the hp was boosted but at the same torque level.

In the February '08 issue of Motorhome mag the Destination with the 340HP engine was reviewed. The gas Itasca Latitude, also with a 39W floorplan, was briefly tested and the gas model out performed the diesel in all areas of acceleration and hill climbing ability. The diesel got 3 mpg better mileage in the short test. If the gas model chip had been reprogrammed it would really have left the diesel in the dust.
