Kitchen slide out.

So I'm on my second slideout fix(Schwintek) This time they said they have called Wenni and they recommended replacing the slideout system from Schwintek to Powergear. Has anyone done this? This is the passenger slideout/kitchen. 2014 40U
Thanks.

Winnebago switched from Schwintec to Powergear SlimRack for most all of their RV slides between 2015 and 2017. The Powergear slides seem much more reliable.

I have seen reports on this and other forums of other owners that had continuous problems with Schwintec systems that had them changed out with Powergear systems and being pleased with the change.

I owned a previous SOB (some other brand) RV with Schwintec slides and had lots of problems. My current WBGO motorhome has Powergear slides and they have worked pretty well. They are not perfect, but seem better than Schwintec systems.

I contacted LCI today and they explained the system to me and they also sent me the information on the system. I feel better about it now.

We had ours done at the factory about 5 years ago and is much better. We try and make it to the factory every 2-3 years and have them check, and they had to adjust in 2018 but has not failed since they installed the power gear conversion.

Thanks.
My 2015 Tour kitchen slide has Power Gear and the bedroom has Schwintek. It was that way when we purchased it new. I had a motor go out on the Power Gear slide.

A few things I learned about both systems. (From LCI)

Never reverse the direction of travel unless it is an emergency. It throws the motors out of sync.

When extending or retracting, when the slide reaches full stop, continue to hold the extend/retract button in for a minimum of 5 seconds. This allows the motors to sync up again. (When I do this I still here a motor whirring within that 5 seconds.)

Do not let one end of a slide to move more than two inches, if it does - consider it an emergency and stop. Try to figure out the problem and if necessary use the override function on the controller. When using the override be very careful as all safety settings are disabled. Damage can occur and break something.

Well, I have to say I'm excited to get this power gear slide. I'm so tired of the fear every time I open it or close it.

We had the kitchen slide on our 2014 Journey 40U replaced at LCI in Indiana. They replaced the Schwintek system with a Power Gear at no cost and we had no warranty. Their workmanship was excellent and we’ve had no problems since.

Did they have to remove the slide?

They had to extend it and temporarily support it but there was no need to fully remove the slide. We made an appointment and they spent a full day making the repair. This work was performed 3 years ago and we haven’t had any problems since. The new Power Gear mechanism seems to be a bit slower than the previous but has worked very well.

The 1st guy I went to see said he needed the slide out but I wasn't too sure about that. I've taken it somewhere else so now we are waiting on the parts. My extended warranty company is going to cover it. I still have a deductible.:-(

We had no warranty and I assumed we would have to pay for the repair at LCI. Fortunately for us, and without asking, LCI made the repair at no cost.
