Installing New batteries

We are replacing the 4, 6V batteries in our 2006 34H Winnebago Journey. I can find instructions online for hooking up 4, 6V batteries, but they all have one positive and one negative coming from coach. Our rig has two positive and one negative coming from the coach. Where do I connect the second positive wire from coach, and why is there only one negative from coach? Shouldn’t there be two negative from coach if there are two positive from coach?

The Chassis Wiring Installation diagram for your coach shows how the 3 OEM 12V coach batteries were wired. A previous owner presumably replaced those with 4 6V batteries wired in series/parallel.

Are you still going to have 4-batteries in Parallel instead of 4-batteries in Serial like now? Or will you change to 2-batteries in Parallel? Because that will make a difference in the advice given.

Also, do you have an inverter? Was it factory installed? That would explain the rest of your question.

I haven’t had time to look up your battery wiring in your wiring diagrams. But will try to get to it later if no one beats me to it

I guess the previous owner replaced as we have 4, 6V. We are replacing them and putting 2 in series and the other 2 in series. Then connecting the (now) 12Volts in parellel. We do have an inverter that was factory installed.

So it sounds like you are creating two 12v banks (of two 6v batteries each, in series). Without knowing how things were wired to begin with (Pro Tip: Always take a picture and label cables before removing), I would think that one red will go to one bank, and the other red to the second. The black wire can go to either battery, but you will need another short black cable to connect the two banks to ground. If you have a monitor with a shunt, the negative distribution changes. Where does the inverter come into the picture? More information & pictures, if possible!

Following the wires is harder than understanding the concept.
2 6V batteries hooked up with the + of one connected to the - of the other will give you a 12V battery.
If you have multiple sets like this you simply link all the FREE + terminals together and all the FREE - terminals together. This will give you a 12V battery bank.
To know the size of the bank multiply the number of 2 battery strings times the size of one 6V battery.

If you have 2 6V 100AH batteries in series this string will give you a 100AH.
If you add 2 strings together in parallel you will have a 200AH battery bank.
Of course in the real world of batteries you really don't have the ability to use all 100AH without doing major damage to your batteries.
