2005 Winnebago Journey doesn't recognize 50 amp connection

Having trouble with the readout recognizing when I'm connected to a 50 amp circuit. I double checked that I had 120/240 at the throw-over, but for some reason the coach doesn't recognize it. I'm not aware of any other locations to check for a loss of voltage, so any help with troubleshooting is much appreciated.

Make sure that all of the 120V breakers in the coach are turned on. The EMS makes use of one of the breakers (typically the rightmost breaker, but not always) to identify the presence of 50A power. If that breaker is off it won't be able to detect 50A and will default to 30A.

Thank you. I did double check that all the breakers are turned on, I even cycled them off/on to make sure. I guess it is possible that I could have a bad breaker though.

There is at one sense line on mine. The line was on the switched side of the breaker connected with the load (two wires to one breaker). That would be a place to start.

I had the same problem with my 2006 Winnebago Vectra 40KD. I traced the problem to a bad EMS board. Mine was located behind the breaker box located under the bedroom slide. I found a replacement board at M&M RV Electronics. I powered everything off and disconnected the battery, Installed the new board and I now have 50 amp serviceClick image for larger version

I would work this first by finding if I am not getting fifty amp into and through the RV or if the problem is just that the monitor is not telling me the true story.

This should get you to the 110AC drawings for your RV but there will be two versions, so you will have to spot which drawing fits for you. One of the easier ways to tell which you have may be to count the breakers as one has 8 and the other has 11.

One "quickie" test might be to try both air cond. units as they both use different legs of the 110AC. If they both run, it says you are getting both legs of 110 into that point.
That would then lead to checking the monitor for failure.
If not getting both 110, then the transfer switch and back toward the source is needed.

Transfer switches are often a problem?
Opening the cover may show an obvious burned spot from arcing.

I think the washer/dryer main circuit breaker is the50A load-test, even if you only have the washer/dryer option but no washer installed.
