HWH Slide Cylinder Issues

We have a 2004 Winnebago Vectra. She’s getting old, but we still love her. One of the HWH cylinders that extends our front slide has failed and needs to be replaced.

Does anyone know of an alternative to HWH cylinders?

We’ve spoken with HWH (very unhelpful and uninterested in helping us) and they do not offer seal kits for their cylinders nor do they have any idea when replacement cylinders might be available. They wouldn’t even tell us if they are shipping products.

The answer to your problem probably lies with getting the cylinder out of the RV and finding a hydraulic shop that can either handle the rebuild or even build you a new one to spec.

I've heard other RVers say that HWH doesn't have any of these old parts in stock and that they can take 6mo or longer to build a new part. They are more focused on OEM projects - like the new Winnebago Journey motorhome where the slides and levelers are all HWH products. There is probably more money and more production consistency in selling to manufacturers than taking care of individual customers with older products.

Not positive if this video directly applies to your situation, but it might help. This is part one of a three part video where youtuber AZ Expert takes a slide out out of a 2002 Journey and fixes a leaking HWH cylinder in the process.

The HWH part starts approx 6min and 20secs into the video;

Try Stuart's Service in Elkhart, Indiana. I don't know if they stock the cylinders but I was able to get a solenoid valve for mine that HWH didn't have in stock. You'll need the HWH part number which should be on the cylinder:

The actual rebuild part is about 8:53 into Part #3:

Thanks for the response and the video link.

With your suggestion, I've reach out to a friend that works at a hydraulics shop and says he can fix the cylinder.

Thanks again.
