Generator winterization in 2014 Vista

I have a 2014 Vista with a Cummins Genset that runs off the gas tank - Can I add fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank and then run the genset to get the treatment into the Carb of the Generator ? Never had one before but I know Gas ruins Carbs easily

That's all I do. Dump a couple quarts of Sta-Bil in the tank and fill up, then either run the gen on the way home or for 15 min or so after I get there. Then I start and run the gen every 6-8 weeks over the winter.

I do the same (will be doing it next week in fact)

Run gas tank near empty. Add Stabil and then fill tank. (Gets the stabil good and mixed in and starts the winter season with the freshest gas possible. (We don’t do a ton of long trips)

Run genset for 15–20 min.
Change genset oil and filter.

Run main engine 15-20 min.
Change oil and filter.

Winterize rest of coach.

Never had an issue.

Hope that helps!

I have a 2015 Vista with 4 KW Onan and it never occured to me to winterize the fuel system in my RV to protect the Onan. So, I've been using it without winterizing the Onan or RV with Stabil for 7 winters with no problems.

I have always had the 80 gallon fuel tank at least half full going into winter season. My Vista only sits without being driven about 3 months at a time, as I take a snow-bird trip south after Christmas every year.

I do add fuel system treatment about once per year to try to help keep the Onan carb and V10 fuel injectors in a clean state.

I always run my generator at least 0.5 hours each month since the RV was new. I follow the Onan recommendation to start under no load, run no load for 10 minutes, run with load 15 minutes, no load for 5 minutes to cool down generator, then off. I use the prime function when starting cold and it always has started easily.

I have 61,000 miles on the V10 chassis and 260 hours on the Onan.

My two cents.

Yes Stabil is good but I learned the hard way that the carb in my Onan generator really does not like ethanol. I added a shut off valve in the fuel line so even after running it with Stabil I shut the fuel off and let the Genset stop from no gas. I also drain the "float bowel" of the carb in an effort to get as much of the ethanol gas out of the gen carb.
