My awning was just starting to degrade at the top edge, due to UV. Stitching was starting to fray and a few little cracks were starting to show up. I decided to repair the edge using the same process I use on fabric aircraft wings. I teach this process for Stewart Systems, and was getting my motorhome ready for a trip to Airventure to teach when I noticed the problem. I cleaned the fabric with alcohol, and repaired by gluing on a fabric "finishing tape" over the top seam and the early cracks. I then coated the repair with our UV primer followed by a white primer and our top coat. Everything is waterborne, non toxic and easy to use. This is not a quick repair but it is permanent. This repair should outlast the awning. I started on Sunday around 4 pm and worked a few hours followed by a few hours the next day. All in all, about 5 hours for a permanent repair. The color I used was what I had on hand for my aircraft, a true white would look better and be less noticable. Here's a shot of the finished repair.
