Which Tow Vehicle is Best?

The other current post about problems with Ford's Godzilla engine made me recall this thought.

Some years ago the editors of Trailer Life magazine stated that they get the question of which TV is best quite often. They would not recommend a specific brand, but said buy the one that has the features you need.

As much as most of us have a strong preference, or at least favor one brand over another, I think that's good advice.

Another thing is the first one or two years of a new engine has an element of risk. New designs can be computed, but some of the old gray-haired engineers have left the company, and sadly some of that valuable experience left with them without being fully transferred to the new engineers. As far as the Godzilla 7.3 Liter V-8, we have suffered through the burned-up plug wires and now this camshaft metallurgy problem. Hopefully, all those bugs are now "worked-out." Perhaps we should generalize and say to avoid the first two years of anything, right?

Eagle 5, you're being kind (good for you). I agree with you but probably would have stated the "experience" part differently - yours is better. Two years might not be enough.

Edit: Although unrelated to this post, this is an experience story that's somewhat parallel. I know of a shop situation where one of the employees can rebuild a tractor, including the engine, and it will operate like new. None of his peers, including the boss, can do that. Unfortunately he can't be promoted because he's not good with e-mail.

I bought a 2017 Jeep Cherokee in 2020 as it had all the features I wanted for some "off road" excitement, the V-6 3.2L engine could pull a boat easily out of the water.. and it is easy to switch the transmission when towing behind the RV. It was the 75 year anniversary model and I have to say the first 4 years everything was great except we have had trouble with the dreaded "death wobble". If you know what it is and know how to handle it.. its not a big deal.. but still is a problem.
But.. recently found we had an oil cooler leak. And of course this was right after our 84 month warranty ran out. The oil cooler is inside the engine... long story short $1300 dollars later we have replaced the oil cooler.
Otherwise.. and as of now.. still happy with my choice.
But I agree... get what you want with all the features you want, do your research and what happens happens... Happy Shopping!!
