The Reef At Rocky Point - My RV Day Spa!
On this trip it was another working vacation for me, but well worth it.
Nowhere in the USA can you get so many services all in one place. This is why I call The Reef At Rocky Point - my RV Day Spa!
Here's what I accomplished on this trip: LOOK AT ALL THIS STUFF I GOT DONE ON THIS TRIP!
* Gabriel (a licensed electrician) pulled my Parallax ATS5070 and disassembled it. I was ready to replace the Deltrol Controls "Hot" and "Neutral" relays inside, but they were fine so I just put the 17 year old ATS5070 back in place.
==> So you can rebuild your ATS5070 and for more information on that you can find my other post on this subject using Deltrol Controls 8-pin relays which IMO are better for us Onan 7500/8000 generator owners who need a 70A neutral capability most new ATS boxes no longer provide.
* Gabriel and his helper Manual replaced all my HWH flat floor plastic parts. This is not a job for the novice, but Gabriel has the experience and I learned a lot about my HWH slideout mechanism. Note: Most RV shops in the USA will bill you ~$2,000 to pull the RAM out and do the job right + $350 in HWH parts. I paid $500 and I am very happy with the results, and of course the price.
Note: It is customary to tip these guys. And they know they can raise their prices, but they don't, because they want you to show your appreciation and how hard is that when you are saving thousands of dollars!
* Carlos and Pablo fixed my bumper scratch (as shown in the pictures above).
* They re-glued my engine hood latch to the fiberglass cap.
* Last Oct-2020 they used Geocel ProFlex Clear to do a complete roof maintenance job and re-glue my roof radius. And on this trip I brought them some Flex Glue Clear (liquid rubber in a can) and they tapped off the roof seams and applied Flex Glue Clear on top of the ProFlex. Why? I hope by doing this the ProFlex will not crack as soon. And the rubber in the Flex Glue is much, much better at preventing the harmful UV rays of the sun from affecting the ProFlex Clear underneath. Only time will tell if this tip will work, but I can tell you it's not hard to apply and looks great when you are done!
* Carlos and I installed a portable GE 8000 BTU AC I bought at Lowes and then he refinished my credenza top. Looks great! And I love the extra AC... which is now my primary AC and I use the basement blower to just recirculate the air much of the time (in hot, but dry climates).
* Carlos painted the AC vent to the outside wall and it looks great.
AC is like HP. You can't get enough in my opinion.
* Gabriel ran (snaked) a 50' extension cord from my AC to my ATS and we connected it to L2. This will help the generator run smoother under heavy loads (aka load balancing L1 with L2), and then I can also plug my portable AC into a separate 120V wall socket (20 or 30A) when I have shore power. This way the portable AC is not connected to my RV 50A-Service at all!
* Gabriel and Manual then changed my RV engine oil and my Onan generator oil.
* Gabriel and check the capacitors in your RV air conditioner on the roof or in your basement. And you can buy parts for your AC in town.
Note: There is also an Auto Zone and Sam's Club in Puerto Penacso too.
* Omar and his cleaning crew spent 3 hours (2-persons) deep cleaning the inside of my RV. Windows, carpets, upholstery, shower. That's 8 hours of cleaning and I thought things looked pretty clean to begin with!
* Then Oman cleaned the upholstery inside my tow car. For my RV deep clean and tow car inside clean it's $180 after tip.
* Kiko washed and waxed the RV for $175. This included the cleaning the roof and polishing the wheels. (He does just an okay job, IMO.)
=== Recommendations ===
* If you come to have these guys work on the mechanical part of your RV, you need to bring everything you think you might need with you.
* Thing of what you would need/use if you were going to do the job yourself at home... and bring it with you!
* This means you need to bring the right tools and materials -- and I even brought large pieces of cardboard because I knew these guys were going to be sliding around underneath the coach. ...And I brought empty DEF containers to put the old oil in.
* The security guards at The Reef will help you with the communication issues and you will be challenged and even frustrated at times. But the park has internet so you can always load a Spanish-English translator app on you phone. ...And then tip the park security guards for their extra help.
Note: No one pushes you to tip. They will not lean on you is what I am saying. You have to volunteer it and they will show their appreciation in kind. Likewise, the quality of their work is NOT based on tipping. I tell you it's like getting a good dose of humanity when I work with these guys, because they work so hard and want to please you as their customer.
* Carlos's prices for body and paint are more than fair. His work is so good I don't even question is prices anymore. Plus he will only do the job "right" the first time!
When you go to Rocky Point, you can leave these guys to work their magic or you can watch and learn. I do a little of both. Plus there are two very good restaurants next door to The Reef RV Park you will enjoy; but you really need a tow car to get to town. A taxi cost $25 each way. And FYI, gas is $4.50/gal.
So I had another very successful trip to The Reef At Rocky Point, Puerto Penasco, MX and I had a good time on vacation. I highly recommend you go and crossing at Lukeville, AZ boarder is no problem, no fuss, and only takes 10 minutes on average.
Note: Why, AZ has a fueling stop and convenience store called "Why Not Stop" and they can store your gun in a locker, sell you Mexican insurance for your RV and tow car ($75-$120 depending on how long you want) and of course you can get gas. And right around the corner is a new Indian Casino with an RV park in back. It's called Hickiwan Trails RV Park. I have not stayed there, because I usually stayed there because I have not needed to, but you might depending on your travel schedule. My point is that there are facilities on the US side of the boarder in Why, AZ just 20 miles from the boarder.
