Hi Al & Deb,
I never knew Marylin was so tall.
I never knew Roadrunners were so small.
I never knew Yucca Plants could grow like trees.
I never knew Cactus could also have leaves.
Some of this scenery looks like it might have been used in the original Star Trek series.
Thanks for the report.

Thank you for another titillating trip summary! I’d like to repeat your experience.
FYI, I tried to comment on your web page, but it needs a log in?

Thanks and I hope you have a great RV trip! I think Wordpress requires an account to comment but no worries. I post them there just to keep them all in one place, but I like comments here better as winnieowners.com is a great RV community.

Reason I even mentioned it, is it seems odd, as I’ve posted comments before without needing to log in to your page…

Looks like fun. My wife had a nurses conference in Palm Springs 10 years or so ago. We loved he place. Did you get a chance to head down to the Salton Sea?

We didn’t make it this trip. I went many MANY years ago while in college and wasn’t impressed. What should we do there?

There is absolutely nothing to do there and the area is very depressed. If you saw it many years ago that should do. Wife and I found it interesting and did some research on it.
The bubbling mud pots dotting the are were interesting as is the geothermal energy they are pulling from the ground. We found a website that gave locations of these geothermal formations.
From my research it appears it used to be connected to the Gulf of California many many years ago. The elevation of the Salton Sea is 226' below sea level. There was at one time an initiative to re-connect the Salton Sea to the Pacific Ocean, not sure the senator did his homework as that would raise the elevation of the Salton Sea back to mean sea level or 226' above it's current elevation, can you say Flood!!! This is the kind of stuff my engineering mind finds interesting.
There was a movie with Val Kilmer that was equally depressing LOL.

We visited both the East and West sides. I enjoy going to places like that (although my wife does not) and I did a lot of research, what a place it must have been in it's heyday! Sonny Bono had plans to fix it but all that stopped when he died. We drove up the West side on the way to Palm Springs and down the East side going home. It was raining the whole way home and the road on the East side has dozens of water crossings which were quickly filling with red clay colored muddy water. I was getting pretty nervous by the time we got near the end as some of those crossings were getting wide and deep! We were not in an RV but in a small car!
I want to go back and check out Slab City and Salvation Mountain. Been a few movies filmed around there, recently saw "into the Wild" with part of it filmed there.
Now the area is being considered for lithium mining as it has one of the richest lithium deposits in the world with cheap, easy access. The flower children are not going to be happy.

Thanks for the info! I’ll probably focus on other areas on our next trip, but you never know. Polo fields for sure, and maybe hot springs. Take care!

Great report! I came down to escape winter, not having seen the place in 30 years. Loving it! Extended from 3 months to 5, and I'm leaving the motorhome here year around. The rent is so cheap I can do two roundtrip plane tickets/year in what I'll save in gas.

Wow, sounds like a deal! It can get pretty hot in the summer for the RV while in storage.

Yeah, I've got to research that. There are about 25 Canadians here who leave their RVs year-round, so I'm sure there is a process.

One of the processes is to fill 2 garbage cans with water and leave them inside. By fall, all the water will be gone. It is said to help with wood splitting, etc. The sun will destroy things like vinyl, trims, and other plastics almost before your eyes. It's brutal in the summer!
Another is get a cover, but it has to be a good one, as the desert winds come up often.
If you want a space for the month of March, the best month, PM me. I've got a great spot we are not using...

I've heard that people buy a small kiddie pool for the same purpose. That's a very generous offer, but I've already got a year lease. Cheers!

I really enjoy your reports Macnut! Thank you!
Did you like the new spot for Marilyn? Many people don't approve...

I’m no art critic, but I thought the new location by the entrance to the museum was great. I like the palm tree lined walkway around the statue with the mountains in the background. She really stands out there, and it may draw more people to the museum!
