The old Schwintec Racks were hard-mounted to the sides of the slide-outs. The pinion gears were attached to the perimeter wall. The required tolerance of this assembly was a maximum of ¼". If the slide-out and perimeter wall was perfectly aligned and true, they would work fine. Sadly, many times this level of accuracy didn't manifest in the final product.
Certainly by 2018 (probably earlier) a new design for the Racks was released, where they were mounted just the ends. This way, they could float, relative to the slide-out wall. The pinion captivates the rack, and so the tolerance requirement was greatly relieved.
