I have a 2014 24’ Trend, my ac works on shore power but will not work with generator, is that how they’re supposed to work?

I would guess that when running the A/C that you don't have an automatic transfer switch so you need to plug in the generator in a cabinet.

This is covered in your Operator's Manual, section 6-5.
