Help to connect an external propane tank
I have a 2011 Vista 36D motorhome. Is there a way to hook up an external propane tank? I am running low on propane. It's really cold outside and I am in a campground with very few people. But an almost unlimited supply of 20lb full grill tanks.

If your unit has the adapter kit. Something like Extend-a-Stay Kit. Otherwise, there isn't any other way that I am aware of.

Glad.to hear you have LP to stay warm!
I have put them in every motorhome I have ever owned. I usually use a 40# tank on the hook up. I have used 100# but they are a pain to move.
Another option is you can fill the MH from a LP delivery truck. We have LP at home, if I call for a fill and leave my RV near the tank they will top it up for me. However, it would be cost prohibitive to have tem come out just to fill the MH tank.

I think I replied in a different RVing forum to your identical post there.

Are you plugged in? I would use a couple of electric space heaters, electricity is way cheaper than propane and keep the propane for cooking and supplemental heat when necessary!

Recently I had that question, I was told a hose adapter called, I thought clever, a cheater hose! Go figure, Ordered received $75.00 Can. $$. hooks a portable tank to on board tank. Will fill only to level capacity, meaning you cannot empty the portable and fill one board. So use on board, cap up when it’s level falls below portable. Or I guess leave connected risk emptying both.

I use my electric fireplace a lot when it's mot terribly cold. We also used a space heater before we went out dor propane. I have an electric blanket also.
However, with the new T installed, we have basically free propane also. This weekend, we just used the grill tank. If it runs out I just call them and tell them my grill tank is empty and they bring me another one at no charge.

That works to keep people warm, however in many units the propane furnace provides heat to the tanks to keep them from freezing.

There are several versions of the “stay-a-while” type adapter. The more expensive versions are made with more pieces, which can be essential if you have to modify the adapter extensively as I needed to do on my RV. The adapter connects after the RV tank valve, so you can turn off the tank valve and use only the external tank, if you like. The adapter has two ports, one for the external tank hose and one for a hose to a grill, etc.
