My toilet will hold water for about 15 minutes after flushing. Then it's gone. I'm afraid a sewer gas smell will get in. Any suggestions?

Finhawk;
We have had that problem. We would take a brush and clean the ball valve and the seat. It seems that a build up of crud will cause that problem.
Good Luck;
Don

Agree with the crud buildup. You can't see it until you replace the seal.
My coach came with a plastic cleaning stick (like a large tongue depressor) with a rough surface. You run it between the ball valve and seal, back & forth like a file. It also included a cleaning cream.
Not sure if you can buy them or if they just come with the toilet.

Had this problem too on our 02 Journey. Purchased new seal kit from CW and installed the kit in about 1 hour. Check the toilet type and model on the net and the part number will be available. The separation of the bowl from the base is simple. The seal replacement is 2 parts and simply installs on the base. The problem is "crud" build up on the ball which creates a water leak. The seal kit was $38 and doing it myself saved over $100 in a service call. Good luck.

Get a nice toilet brusch. Use it at least once a week. Sealand toilets need it more than a Thedford.

Had this same problem just the other day. The problem was indeed gunk or whatever around the seal. Cleaning it good with a stiff toilet brush did the trick. However, one cleaning may not be enough. It took about three times before mine finally started sealing and quick leaking down.

We have a sealand vacuum toilet. I'll give it away to the first caller.

I have the same prob. After lifting the foot pedal to refill the bowl I press it down slightly for a split second and the release. As long as I do that I have no prob.

It's a good idea to clean the ball seals if water is seeping into the tank of your toilet. However, if you clean them and the problem continues, you may have to replace the gaskets that form a seal between the toilet bowl and the flush ball. I had to replace the ones in our 2004 Brave and it now holds water perfectly. The gaskets are available in a kit from places like PPL Motors or most RV parts departments. They're shaped like a flat rubber donut and there's two of them in the kit. Luckily, they're pretty easy to replace. Best of luck.

So enlighten me. How do you replace the seals? I figured the toilet would have to come off

Finhawk,
Depending on the toilet, the toilet must be removed from the band securing it at its base. It is not a difficult job, and I knows sealands directions are ver easy to follow. If you can change oil on a car you can do this. Under the plastic cover (Sealand) there is a big clamp, like a radiator type, that is where the toilet bowl seperates from the base. The job takes about a half hour.

Well, I've restored 3 Studebakers. Maybe I can handle it.
Thanks

I have a sealand toilet and this works for me: clean the rubber seal with a brush or rubber gloves. After the good cleaning apply vasoline on the rubber seal and the ball, and even on the sides of toilet to keep it lubricated. That's it and works like a charm.
