Rusted Windshield Frame 2001 Brave 33

We have a 2001 Winne Brave 33' and the front window has been leaking. When I went to Montana last year we where passing a truck and the air pressure popped the passenger window out at the top. A glass shop repaired it so we could get home. They said that the frame around the glass was rusted thru and would need to be replaced when we got home. Winnebago does not have the windshied reveal any more and said we would have to find someone to make it. Any suggestion on where we could look? The passenger window glass will need to be repaced also.

When I had mine done it was by Thomas Payne Glass in Sebring Florida. They removed both windshields and fabricated and welded new steel in. They then installed new windshields. Cost me about $1500 and insurance paid for glass.

Make sure that whoever does the job also does a good job of rust-proofing the new steel. My 2002 had the frame either replaced or repaired before I bought it but apparently they didn't do a good job of rustproofing. When I had to have one side of my windshield replaced, the installers pointed out that both sides were loose due to rust. They removed the unbroken windshield and treated the rusty frame and rust-proofed it before installing both windshields.

If the seals surrounding the glass is sealed, no water should enter that open area around the glass. Now if the front top cap to roof transition is not sealed water-tight water enters then runs down the inside of the cap and pools around the windshield glass.

When I had mine done (due to a cracked windshield) I went to Duncan RV Systems in Elkhart, IN. There are two businesses next door to each other, one is an RV repair (who pulled my glass and rebuilt the frame) and the other is Duncan Glass (who did the actual windshield replacement once the frame was rebuilt.) Took about 4 days, as I recall.

My 2012 Journey 36M leaked from the factory. I had the windshield replaced, frame rust treated in 2014. Still leaked, main leak was fiberglass roof cap to frame was not correctly sealed, spent hours removing sealant, re-sealing with polyurethane sealant ... Still leaked. Finally put Gorilla tape across top of rubber trim and that fix the leak.

So did I and it worked well. The problem was the damage was already done and the windshields were loose. My 2002 had the complete repair done by the PO but apparently they hadn't done it properly.
