Inner Skylight Cover Removal

New to the rv community. How do I remove the inner skylight above the shower to clean behind it? It seems to have numerous screws around the perimeter. 2017 Vista 29VE. Thanks

Just unscrew it, and, if your screws aren't stainless steel, replace them with SS screws when you reinstall it.

When you unscrew it, leave one screw in the middle of two opposing sides for last. Then carefully remove them while holding the skylight in place. That way it won't try to drop out in an uncontrolled way, which could cause damage.

An electric screwdriver or drill with a screwdriver bit will make the job a lot easier.

Mine didn't have any sealant but your's may or may not.

Thanks Bob, looks like this is something I can do. Don't know what's behind it but something is blocking a few sections

Focus is bad, but it looks strange. Can you describe what we're seeing?

The dark shadows are on the inside, between the roof and skylight, the far edge looks like the ceiling edge material and the dark spot in the corner is whatever, maybe insulation. It looks blurry because it's going through the cover

I guess you'll have to take it down to know what it is. Let us know. Probably debris from assembly.

I have the exact same looking thing in one corner of my shower skylight. Hasn't changed in two years so I calculate it was there from day one build out.

You usually just pop off the plastic beauty covers on the screw heads and unscrew them. Note that often you will find that the sealant around the outer dome has failed or the dome itself had cracked and needs plastic welding or to be roughed up and repaired with a UV resistant epoxy along with perhaps a piece of fiberglass mesh.

Thanks guys, what I did find out after removing the inner was the outer was leaking. The dark spots was the dirty dripping from moisture

Hopefully it wasn't from being broken and can just be rebedded. It's best to remove it completely, cleaning everything and re-bedding with Manus 75AM. Personally, I'd add some Eternabond tape from the roof up and over the edges of the skylight (covering the screws) for extra measure.

Was there any damage to the luan plywood between the fiberglass and foam?

There is some delamination of the plywood but I don't think I'm going to repair it. I will probably take off all the sealant and redo it with NuFlex 311. These are the things you don't see when you buy used. The wrong sealant was used
