Taylor Park Colorado Mid Week Adventures

Did a mid-week adventure with my son and grandson (2 1/2 yrs) to Taylor Park just on the west side of Cottonwood Pass in our 2021 Micro Minnie 2100BH towed by the amazing 2021 Ford F-150 Powerboost with a 7.2Kw inverter in the bedwall. Our generator is the truck engine. Simply plug in the 30amp power cord into the truck and We’ve got all the power we need. What a trip. Arrived at our dispersed camping spot around 5ish on Wednesday at the Pipeplant area off of Taylor Park Road about 5 miles from Taylor Park Reservoir. It was hot, around 80 degrees. Nice to be able to kick on the AC for a little comfort in the trailer. Had a great night star and satellite gazing after cooking up a wonderful tomahawk ribeye. Got down to 38’ that night, but we were comfy in Minnie.

Got the little guy up early to do some fishing on the reservoir and on the way there spotted a moose and an elk. Then a quick 2 hour round trip to Gunnison for lunch at El Paraiso (highly recommend) The trip doubled as a great car nap for the little guy.

Next was a ride up to Tin Cup and then a 3 mile trip up to Mirror lake. Spectacular!

Thursday night at dusk we did an evening cruise up the Taylor Park Road past the smaller pothole reservoirs teeming with fish and ducks and dozens of deer nearby.

Had a leisurely Friday morning before heading back over the pass to civilization. Even short trips, especially with young ones can be fun, and memorable. We’re are fortunate and thankful to live so close to this most beautiful part of the world.

I hope you all enjoy your travels and time with loved ones as much as we do!

Here are some pics:

Sorry about the orientation. I need to learn how to fix that.

Sounds like fun! How did the truck do on Tin Cup? I haven’t been there in a few years.

We took my sons 2019 F150 for that excursion. The road to Tin Cup from the reservoir is smooth and wide, From there to Mirror lake was slow going, probably about 10-15 mph to go the 3 miles, but it’s beautiful, along a river and a few ponds. It’s more of an ATV road but the truck did fine.

You ask and that's all it takes:

To TAKE photos that don't rotate on you you simply need to hold your phone horizontal... not vertical. AND, you must hold it so that the shutter button or phone home button is on the right. Then when you upload they will be correctly oriented.

To FIX photos you've already taken with the phone vertical, just Open the photo on your phone vertically and take a screenshot of the photo. That will fix the orientation when you upload the screenshot. You can also download the vertical photos to a desktop computer, open them in a photo editor such as Adobe, or Preview on a Mac, not sure what on a PC. Rotate the photo to the correct orientation and save it. Then when you upload it will appear correct.

The reason for the out of orientation is long - but it has to do with the gyro in your phone. The photo knows which way is up/correct, but your phone ignores that and uses the gyro to display the sideways photo correctly to you - but the photo is still sideways.

Here's one I opened, downloaded to my iMac and rotated it in the MacOS Preview tool and saved it back to my computer:

I went over Cottonwood Pass from BV to Taylor Park on June 5. The snow on the pass had been plowed, but the remaning snowpack on each side of the road was twice as high as my 3/4-ton truck. By the time I got down to the Taylor River canyon, there was no snow on the ground, even under the trees. I was on my way to Crested Butte and, once again, saw snow in town higher than my head. But those piles were from residents shoveling their walks, not from natural snowfall as on the pass!
