You ask and that's all it takes:
To TAKE photos that don't rotate on you you simply need to hold your phone horizontal... not vertical. AND, you must hold it so that the shutter button or phone home button is on the right. Then when you upload they will be correctly oriented.
To FIX photos you've already taken with the phone vertical, just Open the photo on your phone vertically and take a screenshot of the photo. That will fix the orientation when you upload the screenshot. You can also download the vertical photos to a desktop computer, open them in a photo editor such as Adobe, or Preview on a Mac, not sure what on a PC. Rotate the photo to the correct orientation and save it. Then when you upload it will appear correct.
The reason for the out of orientation is long - but it has to do with the gyro in your phone. The photo knows which way is up/correct, but your phone ignores that and uses the gyro to display the sideways photo correctly to you - but the photo is still sideways.
