Micro Minnie 1708FB Feedback

Posted 01-25-2021 at 10:44 PM by Bob Traveler

Just wanted to give some feedback on our 2021 Micro Minnie 1708FB we purchased in early December 2020. This 1708FB was late enough in the year that it came with the Explorer Package, Comfort Package, and the Extreme Weather Package. I live in northern Wisconsin and this year it was colder sooner in the year, so we were only able to make two 400-mile trips before winterizing it. From my perspective as a native northerner the 1708FB seemed to do very well in 20-degree weather. We did not have enough time to explorer using it in zero or below weather yet. I would feel comfortable camping in any southern states through the winter months.
As far as towing I towed with a GMC Canyon 3.6L, 305HP, V6. My feedback as an experienced load hauling driver is that the Canyon pulled and drove very well at any speed up to 60MPH. Over 60MPH on interstates and or secondary highways the Canyon needed to either gear down or I had to keep it in tow mode to maintain a smooth comfortable drive. In either case the RPM’s were not significantly increased during those times. I have driven the GMC Canyon Diesel as well and I do not believe it would have any issues at all with towing. I use a Stage One chip in my diagnostic port which does not violate the vehicle warranty and after using the chip for a few years now it has increased my mileage about 4 to 6 miles a gallon. The first trip I averaged 14MPG. The second trip I averaged 15MPG. Same route for both trips. The weather was harsh on the first trip, so I have attributed that loss of MPG to the elements.
Though the Canyon would do fine on any trip we will take we have decided to use our GMC Sierra SLT 5.3L, 355HP, V8 to travel through the mountains. It also allows us a little more room for our Labrador to be in the back seat.
